EV Charging

If you are looking for an EV charger installation in Great Yarmouth, Norwich and the surrounding areas, look no further than our fully qualified expert electricians. We can manage the survey and installation process for an EV charge point of your choice. We carry out both domestic and commercial installations, so, whether you require a charging point for your new electric vehicle or multiple charge points for your commercial fleet, employees or clients, we can provide this.

Charging an Electric Vehicle can take anything between 3-10 hours typically for a domestic charger. How long it takes to charge your electric car depends on the car’s battery size, how many miles you do between charges, your charging behaviour, the power rating of the charger you’re using and the time of day.

Securilec install three main types of charging points:

  • 3.7kW For single phase supplies were the electrical supply limits the available load. Takes on average 14-16 hours to fully charge.
  • 7kW For single phase supplies, roughly twice as fast as the 3.7kW and used for most homes. Takes on average 7-8 hours to fully charge.
  • 22kW For three phase supplies in large homes and commercial premises. Takes on average 3 hours to fully charge.

Do I Need A Tethered or Untethered Charger?

A tethered EV charger has a cable that connects directly to your vehicle permanently attached to the charging unit. You can unravel the cable from the charging unit and plug it into your vehicle, much like you would filling up your car at a petrol station. EV Charger manufacturers tend to provide a 5-metre cable as standard but sometimes can vary in length.

An untethered EV charger is the alternative type which doesn’t have a charging cable permanently attached to the charging unit and has a socket giving you more flexibility over the type of charging cable you can connect to it. Having a detachable cable means you can take it with you and use it at other public charging points if you need to. It also means that you can plug in a cable to suit a different type of electric car if needed. You may need to purchase the charging cable separately, unless your vehicle comes with one included.

We are Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) approved and offer a selection of electric vehicle charging solutions from highly respected manufacturers for you to choose from. You can rest assured that you are receiving a comprehensive EV charger installation featuring only the best components when you choose Securilec.

Do I Need A Site Survey?

From our experience there is no such thing as a standard installation for an EV Charger. The type of consumer unit and earthing on site plays an important part of the installation design as well as the cable route, type of cable needed and the location of the vehicle charging area including its proximity to other metallic structures, We will provide a free site survey to provide you with a fixed quotation before we start which will lead to a hassle free and safe installation.

Domestic Charger Installation

How Will We Install Your Charger?

A typical installation will involve installing a cable from your charger to your existing consumer unit (subject to BS7671 compliance) or to a new small consumer unit located next to your existing one for the sole purpose of powering the charging point.

The charger will normally be mounted on the external wall of your home at approximately 1200mm above ground level in close vicinity to where your car is parked. We will set up the charger, connect it to your mobile app (where required) and demonstrate how to use it correctly.

Commercial Charger Installation

If you require an EV Charger installation for your business or commercial premises, we have everything covered. From a single charger to serve a company vehicle to multiple chargers for your business fleet, employee’s cares or clients’ cars, we can provide the right solution for you. The output power can be balanced and evenly distributed across your commercial charging points so that your site supply is not overloaded.

We’ll also let you know of any OZEV grants that you may be eligible for and will assist with the application of these.
